When AI bros cosplay dating

· 2 min read

At the tip of the AI companies in California are countless antisocial people who find vulnerable relationships with other people deeply uncomfortable.

Anna Tong in Forbes (paywall)Apple News+ posits what AI bros are buying from a cohort of hot, nerdy escorts in Silicon Valley.

“Wealthy lonely men have always paid for sex. But AI changes the calculus. When a machine can offer endless, agreeable fantasy for the price of an app subscription, the expensive thing is no longer the fantasy. It is the real thing, stripped of algorithms: the woman who gets bored and changes the subject, who challenges an argument, awkwardly laughs at the wrong moment, or makes the room feel less like a prompt and more like a life being lived out in the world.”

The direct quotes from AI bros offered in the article don't match the kind of confrontation and interactions she believes exist. Instead, the sums at play lets them procure an idealized personality from an escort that suits them.

Antisocial types who have amassed sums of wealth that can never be spent faster than they can grow will probably never know what it feels like to be loved for anything other than wealth.

Actual intelligence would look like them realizing that.
