Heating oil prices were a couple of dollars a gallon last year. This year they’re hovering around $5 per gallon.1

NYMEX heating oil futures price chart. Futures traded around $2.20 a year ago and this week exceeded $5 per gallon.

The price increases reflected in this bar chart represent strain placed on the shoulders of millions of our neighbors. So many people will go bankrupt to stay warm or freeze to death.

I wish it were different.
